Circle of Short Do’s

As I sat in a circle of women the other day, I looked around to see everyone had a very short hair-do except me.  They all looked the same.  I call it the “I give up” hair style worn by women after they get older.

I remember my mother felt like this was something that was inevitable and necessary.  She would mention it every so often when I had long hair in my 30’s.  I used to tell her to look at Jackie Kennedy… she had long hair and she was old.  As I rightly noticed, movie stars and celebrities wore longer hair.  The rules didn’t apply to them?  Sure, they probably spent a fortune on keeping their lustrous locks.  Was it always about money and time?

I am old now and wear my hair in the medium length because I like it that way.  Isn’t that the way it’s supposed to be?  Don’t we finally get to choose without being bound my some archaic fashion rule?  It does take more time and money as my gray hairs take over and the mane become dry, but it’s not impossible.

I thought times had changed until I sat in that circle of women.

  2. LOL... I know, Whit, aren't I awful? I just think it's funny that even when we're old and grey, we're still bound by those fashion rules made by long-gone people! I used to tell my girls that none of that stuff mattered in the real world, but sometimes I'm not so sure. Thanks for the song and a smile today! ~~~ Hugs, Rita B

  3. Don't cut the hair!!!!!!!

I see so many older women with short hair, and while it's sometimes a statement by lesbians, it doesn't necessarily look great on everyone. I think medium and longer gray or white hair is great, I don't know why so many women rush to cut it. Yours looks great, so keep fighting the good fight.

  4. LOL, Skinny! Thanks... I don't plan to anyway. Again though I was with another group of ladies, all older, and it was the same style! How boring. My youngest sister who moved to Florida has complained about not being able to find a salon that does any other hair style. (I call them barber shops!) Whenever she's back in Virginia Beach she gets her hair taken care of there. I hope I have better success after I move to Florida. ~~~ Hugs, Rita B

  5. all my life I've heard that women should not wear their hair long past the age of 30 - but - I have known (and know now) women who looked fantastic with long hair. What's the problem?

  6. I wear my hair from long to short, to buzzed off and wearing a wig. I don't follow any rules except what I feel like doing. To each his (or her) own, I say. Happy MOther's Day!

  7. Because you agree with me, Ice, and I agree with you... I'm happy we're thinking the same way! I think everyone should wear their hair the way they want, mohawks included, and not let some old rule about age dictate how it looks. ~~~ Hugs, Rita B

  8. Yeah, Pup, I've worn my all kinds of ways too! Some of the past styles look quite dated and strange now, but I wouldn't change the fun of it. I let my girls experiment with styles too... even color changes... they still do. It's only hair and hair grows back! LOL!!! Thanks and I hope you had a good Mother's Day too! ~~~ Hugs, Rita B

  10. PolarBear, I know this comment is old, but let's both agree to wear our hair any way we want and dye it purple when we are very old... OK? ~~ Hugs, Rita B
